Harris & Ruble • Art, Hollywood's fashionable gallery for fine art and photography, will host an afternoon of Art and Aperitivo on May 14th from 1-6 pm. You are invited to view the paintings, “New Works” the playful surrealism of Dirk Kortz, filmmaker, poet and painter of extraordinary imagery. "Dirk expresses a fantastical viewpoint of the world in a seductive manner that draws us in" says Marcella Ruble, curator. "His images penetrate our defenses of societal expectations, thereby allowing our unconscious self to joyfully suspend the oppression of reality. He is an elegant trickster." Kortz grew up in New Jersey and studied Painting, Film and Creative Writing at Farleigh Dickinson University, then moved west to complete his B.A. and do graduate work in Film at San Francisco State University. His short films have won awards at festivals world-wide; his writings have published in numerous poetry and literary journals. For the past twenty years, his focus remains exclusively on painting. His work has been exhibited in many gallery shows. The Harris & Ruble Gallery, 6424 Santa Monica Blvd., LA 90038 will be displaying Kortz's work April 2 through May 1; Monday through Friday, 1-6 pm, or call 323-962-3777 for an appointment.
