Marcella RubleMarcella Ruble is a partner at Harris & Ruble, focused on intellectual property and entertainment law.  She is also an artist, art historian, author, and director of Harris & Ruble ART.

From 1989 to 1995, Ms. Ruble served as Assistant General Counsel for M & D Balloons in Kankakee, Illinois and Brisbane, California. In this position she was responsible for overseeing and advising on corporate legal strategy and planning; including licensing and marketing, manufacturing and distribution.

From 1989 to 1999, she served as corporate counsel for Central Furnace and Supply Co. in Naperville, Illinois.

In 2011, Ms. Ruble co-authored a book about an important historic property, The First Estate of Beverly Hills: The Home and Gardens of Virginia and Harry Robinson.

Marcella has also written on other twentieth-century cultural icons such as Lord Duveen of Millbank. He was considered one of the most important experts on Old Master Paintings. In 1919, he was sued for slander by the Hahn family who owned the painting, La Belle Ferronnière, when he said it was not the work of Leonardo da Vinci.  In 1975, the family gave the painting to an art dealer who would not return it.  In 2005, Harris & Ruble successfully sued to recover the art, and on January 26, 2010, the painting was sold for $1,500,000 at Sotheby’s Old Master’s Auction.

At the 2009 Pop Culture and American Culture Conference, she presented a paper, The Creation of an Icon: The Playboy Bunny Costume, which dealt with the enduring cultural impact of the club and the costume.  In the ‘70s and ‘80s, Marcella was an astrologer at various Playboy Clubs. She also lectured and performed at colleges, universities, and corporate and private events.

Ms. Ruble, former chair of LACMA’s Decorative Arts and Design Council in 2007 and 2008, continues to sit on its Board. She has been on the Board of the Friends of Robinson Gardens since 1999.  For over ten years, she was a member of the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS), whose purpose is to raise money for science student scholarships at seven universities and colleges in the Los Angeles area.  In addition, she is a member of the Beverly Hills Women’s Club and the Beverly Hills Garden Club. Ms. Ruble and Alan Harris are also Founders of the Music Center of Los Angeles.  Marcella is a member of its women’s support organization, The Blue Ribbon.  Since its inception, Ms. Ruble has also been a member of the Getty Research Institute’s Collections Council.
